Is it simply the pads and discs or both????? I do have a warranty just like to be armed with a few ideas before I ring them Only after the pads are removed you can clearly see if the discs are affected; if the pads are really worn out and not changed in time, the discs may suffer. The thickness of the discs may also be measured by the service unit, but normally the don't need change until about 100k km.
Les Henson
If you remove the road wheel, you will be able to see the marks on the disc if the pad has worn down to the metal backing plate (matt strips on the disc surface, which is usually shiny). Unless the pads are changed straight away, the disc can be badly gouged and there's a risk of the backing plate jamming in the caliper bracket - causing the wheel to lock. Manufacturers wear limit on pad material is 3-4mm and MOT is 1.5mm minimum. You may find that 'consumables', such as bulbs, brake pads/shoes, and clutch disc are not included in the guarantee. Not particularly difficult to do them yourself - pads are about £20-30, and fitting them takes about 30-minutes. Expect a garage to charge you around £50-60 in total. Les.
