oggie27_3
My td5 has the exhaust manifold gasket squeal. i have got a new gasket and the wurth nuts/studs as recommended by other forummers. the advice/help i need is it ok just to change these and not get the manifold skimmed or am i just delaying the inevitable. the only down side is i am takink the missus and bambino to cornwall on wednesday so i have only got tomorrow to do the job(weather permitting). Any advice greatly recieved. Thanks jon
DaveSIIA
Lay a straight edge along the gasket face of the manifold. That will show whether it needs skimming.
JimAttrill
We have a slab of granite that we use to see if the manifold rocks on it. If your gasket has gone at no 1 or no 5 cylinders the chances are the thing is warped. If you haven't the time to have it skimmed straight away, you can put it back on, but be warned that it is likely to either break the studs or pull them out of the head. So get it done when you get back asap.
oggie27_3
hey thanks for the advice. i cheated alittle and bought a 2nd hand manifold that was already skimmed. so now need to get my original one skimmed and then sell it, or maybe keep it as a spare. had no dramas with the swap even with 2 flush sheared studs at no 1 cylinder. the list of to-do jobs is mounting: 1) renew injector harness 2) remove egr 3) waxoyl underside 4) sort slipping clutch 5) sort front sunroof leak (did rear with silicon) 6) get it dirty!!!! M&S
Hi Oggie, I recently had my Disco2 waxoyled. It stinks for weeks, but seems to keep the underside very clean. After a laning trip at the weekend there was a lot less mud than normal stuck to the underside, and a quick rinse with the hose and the rest just falls off! Well worth getting it done in my opinion. Not only to prevent corrosion but to make cleaning easier Which EGR kit are you thinking of using? I looked at the Bearmach one (got it in my hand) and wasn't very impressed. The best looks to be from IRB as it contains replacement pipe rather than plugs and all of the bits needed I think, plus it looks better made. But so far I've had no reply so couldn't confirm this
