ciderman
Is there such a thing avalible as a single mass flywheel for the TD5 defenders? Ive been fitting loads of single mass conversions to Transits and wondered if any one has created such a simple thing for the TD5.
cipx2
I came across this site some time ago: http://www.rakeway.co.uk/flywheels,%20clutch.htm

Made by Rakeway (and avaliable with a choice of clutches) or Britpart (though not sure if this is a cheapened version) I can supply the Rakeway one if required. Only downside is that you get a chatter at idle. Ian

Ian Yep, Weve fitted quite a few in the past to pug's, fords, landrovers,VW's etc etc. No mater what its on they never seem to be quite right afterwards. More often than not you get some chatter at idle and they just dont seem to run as nice with harshness in parts of the rev range. We dont tend to fit them on newer stuff any more but if its something a bit older thats just a run about we offer it as a cheaper option. stravaigin
I thought Ashcroft were doing these but I might be wrong?
ozzie1989
Fitted a genuine Ford conversion kit to our 02 transit not long ago, it's had 3 clutches in 60,000 miles (usually loaded to 3.5ton). They never went badly wrong, just judder whilst reversing and on run down - ford admitted during the two warranty period clutch changes it was the Dual Mass Flywheel. Fitted the single mass kit and new clutch... done 40,000 miles since, no judders, no noises, can take off in 2nd whilst still rolling slowly (for some reason this was a problem after a few thousand miles of the DMF) and feels a lot better too (apparently I don't drive it)! As for a chatter at idle, didn't notice much difference to be honest - although this is a Transit of course.
defninety
I must admit I'm starting to get a bit of judder on my Td5. When it gets worse I think I will go for the solid flywheel. Probably doesn't help that I have Porny's Stage 2 remap either!!!!
