uksniper1
Hi,making me own snorkel as i cant see how suppliers can justifie the prices they are charging at the mo!!!...ok,,ive bought the top piece,i went for the open faced top instead of the mushroom one...as i was told the mushroom ones were for diesel and the open grilled desighn were for petrol...ok.....ive got the 2 an a half inch pipe an flexi hose too,,,just a couple a things i need to know... 1. how is the flexi hose joined to the air box?,,as the air box intake pipe is small,,do i make hose smaller or or put a bigger hole in box? 2. do you need to drill any holes in the bottom of the flexi hose to let out moisture or water?...as snorkel top will be forward facing and was thinking of rain snow e.t.c entering the snorkel. 3. any previous experience in cutting the wing wanted,,,any dos or donts,,ways to mark out and cutting suggestions..dont really want to wreck me wing,,lol..and pictures would be helpfull here... 4. and finaly ive got a k&n free flow cone filter on at mo so this will be for sale when done,,any takers..??? ...ok thanks a lot guys,,all the best,,,wayne.... doda456
So to try and answer your questions, 1, Joining, its bascially whatever you feel happy with doing, but remember you dont have to use your existing airbox, your could swap for anonther type e.g from a disco or range rover, 2, No holes, holes and will let water in and out, out is good but water entering your intake isnt good, 3, No idea, depends what vehicle you have, Hope this helps, and tomoz i will try and post of some pics of my diy snorkel to help you, One last thing, silicone sealant/ pvc cement electrical tape on all joints Dan
bow
if your making a snorkel for a 90/110 why are you going to cut the wing, take a look at a landy one, they bolt or screw to the side air vent on the wing, i made my own in the same way, i used 2.5" tube, a 90 degree bend and a flex air box tube off of a V8, made a flange plate from 5mm plate and welded the bend into that, use the cover grill as your template, i used a mushroom top, they just look right, i used silicone sealant on all joints, and made a gasket for the wing mount out of some thick rubber i had kicking about, sealed the inner wing air box join, then the gasket then the flange, bought the top from paddocks, all told its cost £30, and can not be distinguished from the genuine article, the tube and bend came from a local exhaust specialist, cant add picks, I'm not that advanced yet, ATB BOW..
