puiwit
i would like to change my front doors of my defender td5. there are one-piece doors available, with series door handle, that is important! but that are not the typical series doors consisting of two-piece, top and bottom. i can not find them in part catalogs and manuals. please give me your advice with details about the type, part numbers, pictures and supplier. thank you! Ivan
Can't help with part numbers etc. But I do know they were fitted to the very first 90's. My mate has an A Reg 90 (1983?) and his has the one piece doors with lift up handles ala Series. They also have wind down windows. dirkthe1
could you not just have them as the 2 piece ones-i didnt even know they made 1 piece ones! or is the ability to wind down the window integral?
western
those are the first style of wind down window doors, they should still be available. Craddocks have them listed Part Number : STC543 DOOR CLINCHED ASSY LH 90/110 LIFT UP HANDLE TYPE Part Number : STC542 DOOR CLINCHED ASSY RH 90/110 LIFT UP HANDLE TYPE others like Simmonites/Paddocks probably can supply too. tychoS
i have found some pictures about the required doors. The doors on those pictures match the doors on early 90" and 110" perfectly. Check that the recess for the external handle is not rusted out. They are designed to trap water, as are the steel frame at the bottom of the door. puiwit
@western big thanx for your help with the part numbers!!! @dave88sw i have a defender td5 with the door push button handles. unfortunately i have broken several doors at trees on challenge events. now i think this doors are a good solution. the standard series doors have disadvantages at the windows, even look out with helmet, aso... lets see, if they are available and how long they survive unscathed? mickeyw
Another good reason for lift handle doors is the fact that the latches don't freeze up in the cold. We have had 3 later Defenders with push button doors that persistently freeze up. If it's not the lock barrel that freezes, the button will stick in when you press it to open the door. Regular application of WD40 helps to some extent, as does wrapping a towel round the door handle at night. Fortunately the latest 110 has remote locking, so at least that eliminates the key problem
