series3_mad Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 ive been looking at the topics in the archive about megasqurit and im confused about it, as i considering fitting it to my 3.5 v8 on carbs but im not sure if i need a ecu for just the ignition side it or do i need megajolt but does that require a ecu? as not too keen on going efi. Oh and where can i get the kit i need? cheers matt Quote
TomG Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 There's a good article in the tech archive which explains: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=6759 Quote
Hybrid_From_Hell Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 In simple terms : Megajolt = Keep Carbs Bin the dizzy Megasquirt = Bin Carbs / Lucas ECU AFM And Bin the Dizzy too ?? Nige Quote
Dave W Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Megajolt = Keep Carbs Bin the dizzyMegasquirt = Bin Carbs / Lucas ECU AFM And Bin the Dizzy too Although you can use Megasquirt for both scenarios and have no "upgrade" path if you choose Megajolt and later find a cheap EFi manifold to get better performance out of your engine. Personally I'd go Megasquirt even for ignition only setups. Quote
bobtail84 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Personally I'd go Megasquirt . This is the only way to go. Jeff. Quote
ThreeSheds Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 unless you intend to use LPG in which case MegaJolt is cheaper and perhaps (don't know since I haven't done one) easier? Quote
simonr Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I think some of the confusion arises because originally Megasquirt did the injection only. Later you could add the ignition side of things or install something like Megajolt. The current Megasquirt comes with the electronics necessary for ignition and injection (save for the EDIS bits) so will do both. Megajolt however will only do the ignition side and is not upgradable. MS makes a huge difference to a V8 - similar difference to chipping a more modern engine. You can achieve better mpg, more power, easy starting and even running under water! Si Quote
