Grant. Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Hi All, I have a 110 td5 with standard land rover deepdish(boost) alloys and BFG goodrich all terrains (standard??) I cant remember what the spec of the tyres are but anywhoo...(i think there 265 cant remember the aspect ratio) The drivers side rear wheel is rubbing against the top spring mount, there is no rubbing on the other side, im not sure if it is on articulation or not however it is very apparent by the shiney point on the spring mount. Any thoughts? Thanks Grant Quote
western Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I'd check each wheel to ensure the are all the same specification, maybe one is a different offset to the others, or the axle or trailing arms/A frame are out of alignment Quote
BogMonster Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 265/75R16 should not rub on anything on genuine alloys, though this was never actually fitted to the 110 only to the 90 - 110s with the freestyle alloy option all had 235/85R16, initially I think they were BFG ATs but in later years they were General Grabber TR's which are a jack of no trades and master of less and I have no idea why they changed! I can't see how it could happen but I'd jack up that side of the axle and see if you can see what is going on, maybe something is bent? I run 265/75R16 BFG MTs on alloys on my 110 and have no problems, and I also have 33x13.50R15 Mudzillas which are "Quite a lot wider" and they don't even rub! Quote

Cheers again Grant Quote
western Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 you might be able to tell after driving from a wet surface to a dry surface & look for 4 seperate tyre tread trails rather than 2 if all were inline., other way is a straight edge along the trailing arms & A frame arms to see if they are striaght & true. what state are all the rear end bushes in ? Dinkydave Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 What state are your shocks and springs in? I run 265/75/16 BFG MT's too with no worries. I changed all the shocks springs and bushes not too long ago as I could push in the shocks with no resistance. Ade Quote

I think all the rear bushes, springs and shocks are ok, it passed its MOT 2 months ago first time with no advisory notices and I am assuimng they check those bits in an MOT? Cheers Grant Quote
DaveSIIA Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I had the same problem when I fitted 265/75 tyres on Freestyle alloys to my Td5 110.The tyres lightly rubbed the spring seats on either side when the suspension was flexed a reasonable amount. The 110 has larger diameter spring seats than the 90 (for larger diameter coil springs), so less clearance. This might be why LR offered 265/75 on the 90 only. The Freestyles had 33.0mm offset (don't know the figure for the Boost alloys, but it is normally cast in with the wheel code), so you probably need rims that give a wider offset. It is worth checking that the axle is centred on the chassis by measuring the clearance each side. Quote
Grant. Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 How long have you owned it?Perhaps somebody has fitted the incorrect rear hub/stub axle at some time? If the A frame or trailing arms were bent the handling would be terrible and more to the point undrivable. I can’t see a worn bush being the cause. How much further away is the wheel the other side? I have owned it for about 3 months now, it used to be owned by south coast search and rescue so I assume that it has always had the correct parts, I never noticed it till a friend pointed it out after going to a pay and play a few weeks ago so I am guessing it is when that wheel is on articulation. I havent noticed it on the other side, but I will look when i am out with the land rover next. I will also measure up and come back with a bit more info..... Thanks guys Grant Quote
