id be carful as oil is under pressure, you could end up with hoses being blown off every two minutes.

id get some all rubber hydraulic hoses with crimped ends made up and then you can move them anywhere you want them.

How is it in the way?

Just the pipes or the whole cooler?

I had to relocate mine higher on my old V8 Disco. I just drilled a couple of new holes about 3" higher and simply moved it upwards

I'd recommend this, as I have done it! Take the old hoses to your local hydraulics engineer and they'll make them up on the spot. When you do, get 45 degree fittings on the cooler and work out for yourself which is best for the other ends (setups vary here, but I had a 45 where the hose went to the radiator, and a straight coupling to the hose alongside the engine). Total cost was about £80, which seems about right.

If you look in the Tech Archive you'll find a guide that will point you in the right direction.

When I did mine, the cooler was *just* able to be mounted in the old horn holes, and the horns in the old cooler holes, it makes it tight at the top, but not restricting airflow in any way, and leaves space for a second cooler should I ever need it.

Credit goes to Adrian and White90 of course!

the pipes are bent round the chaiss cross member so just lifting them is not an option

any more ideas or suggestions welcome thanx

Follow the thread in the tech archive. The only way to do it effectively. There is not a quick and easy fix.

Oh, and make sure you don't loose too much oil from the box as a load of new oil can cause it's own problems.......

I just cut the metal pipes leaving the first bend plus a few inches of straight and fitted extended rubber hoses. This was on a 1987 RRC v8 auto where the rubber hoses were jubilee cliped on as standard, but with buldges flaired on the metal tubes. So far the extended pipes have been fine without the budges on the metal pipes to the oil cooler (still has the buldges on metal pipes to the auto box). I did use 2 jubilee clip on the cooler ends of the rubber hoses as I had a few spares in that size. Its done a fair few miles since then, without any problems.

I tried the local hydraulic pipe specialist and they supplied me with rubber hose of the right bore, suitably rated for the pressure + temperature and all sorts of fluids inluding ATF as well as fuel etc. Off the top of my head I can't remeber the BS number for it though it is printed on the hoses.

I did relocate the whole sausage oil cooler higher up.

Ah yes, that's an important point - ATF degrades normal rubber (aparently) so you need appropraite hose to stop your gearbox getting ruined.
