Jon W Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I have a 200tdi discovery engine in my defender and have finally got round to mounting the correct air box. However I have just got a replacement air filter element and its different to the previous one. The one it came with has a black metal base which forms the end of the air canister when fitted. The new one is just the internal element no end piece. Is the end piece meant to come off and be placed on the new one, or have the motor factors given me the wrong one and I need a different part number. I know i could just go back and ask but I dont want to look too stupid if the piece is interchangable but just jammed on. Cheers Jon Quote
smo Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 The metal canister it goes in has a screw on end cap - this is part of the housing and not the filter. The element fits inside and secures with a wing nut, the metal end then fixes onto the end of the securing shaft. Quote
paintman Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 If you are now using the Disco filter can: They have given you the early one which is up to 1992. You need the later one. Take the old one with you. Have a look at the pics on the Famous Four website http://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/part...0-sec-serv.html but bear in mind the part numbers are their own.(or Ebay for that matter) Quote
Jon W Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 Cheers I have had a look at various websites now and found that there are two different types. I need the one with the metal base. I will go back and change it tomorrow. Cheers Jon Quote
