jack2007 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Hi, I have a 03 freelander 1.8. The head gasket was changed less than a year ago.(Goes without saying!!) Lately Iv'e noticed after about 30 mins of driving, the water Temperature gauge drops all the way down and the fans start turning like mad and are very loud! I seem to remember this happening before the last gasket change, I wanted to know if they are related and what it could be? Thanks in advance. Quote
WESTENDER Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 i would check my coolant level, loudness of fans is irrelevant and unconnected to temperature, the fact that the fans operate is relevant to engine temperature, if the gauge hasnt got coolant around its sensor it will show a drop in temperature believe it or not, it then depends where the fan sensor is located ,if its lower down than the temperature gauge sensor and still immersed in coolant then it will activate the fans when the temperature rises. FridgeFreezer Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 ^^^ What he said, check and top up your coolant (you may need to bleed the system if it's dropped that low) as the gauge sensor is likely higher up than the fan switch. Quote
