V8CAMEL Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 my disco 2 went in to landrover on monday on the back of a lorry as it had an oil leak(bit bigger than the standard factory fit one), landrover assist sent out a recovery vehcile without looking at it, not too bad as it was at home. Eventually got the replacement vehicle (a citreon thing) 5 hours after phoning landrover assist. That sat on the drive til wednesday when it was returned back to yeovil landrover and i collected mine fixed. though they could not clean it and remove the oil from underneath as their steam cleaner had bust. Well its just gone back in as the leak is exactly the same. This time i have a 58 plate disco 3. though i had to ask for a replacement vehicle even though its on an approved warranty lets see how long and what sob stories i get this time paul Quote
V8CAMEL Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 well apparently the oil filter was loose and needed tightening, well why didnt they do that last week. They steam cleaned all the oil off and returned it last night about 1800 hours. They have just been out to collect it again as the handbrake cable had frozen because they did not lube it or dry the vehicle post steam cleaning. Apparently it was cold last night so the fact that you cant release the handbrake to drive is acceptable - not!!!!!!! I did tell them that landrover test the vehicles in the cold before releasing them to the unsuspecting public but the service managers answer was they dont put the handbrake on during the artic tests!!!!!!!! so one small oil leak caused by loose oil filter - time at dealers ( so far) 6 working days cost to landrover 1 hire care from avis for 2 days 1 disco 3 for 2 days 2 guys to collect it today £217 parts to fix it last week even though they didnt paul Quote
ThreePointFive Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Seems to be a bad day for hand brakes freezing up!! The power washer we used at the dealership I worked at was constantly breaking down, but surely they should have noticed something like the oil filter... begs the question though, exactly what did they 'fix' when it went in the first time? Les Henson Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 If they charged you £217 and in effect didn't fix it - shouldn't they give you your money back? Les. Quote
q-rover Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I did tell them that landrover test the vehicles in the cold before releasing them to the unsuspecting public but the service managers answer was they dont put the handbrake on during the artic tests!!!!!!!! Good advice actually. Also if you have a trackrod protector, remove it in the winter or if you drive in snowy conditions. Build up of ice in the protector can bend the trackrod. (the one at the rear of the axle, I can never remember which is which ) Quote

(the one at the rear of the axle, I can never remember which is which ) sound advice as long as you have a flat drive or street not too clever if you live on a slope!!!!! It would be except it was landrover which steamed cleaned it, landrover which drove it from the dealership to home, landrover who parked it and guess what landrover which put the handbrake on. ( its an auto so i usually put it in park Quote
V8CAMEL Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 oh fun and games foned the dealership about 1645 to ask where the disco was as they had promised it back this afternoon the snotty service manager, shall we call him pierre to spare his blushes, told me it wouldnt be ready until tomorrow as they wanted to check it. Asked for the replacement car as it was warranty work. he told me that it was not warranty work they were checking and adjusting the handbrake as a favour to me!!!!. I asked what the favour was as they had already admitted that water had got into the cable when they steam cleaned it and that was what had frozen and needed removing as it would only freeze again, he was adament that i could not have a car and even though they had promised it back today sorry tough they had nothing for me to use!!!! even though they had damaged the cable. so i asked to speak to the dealer principal, pierre refused to put me through so i said no problem i would just fone back and get the receptionist to put me through foned back and the principal was busy, so ended back with pierre who told me he had spoken with the principal, bloody fast worker this chap as it was only about 10 secs after coming off the fone to me and that the prinicipal was happy for pierre to deal with it even though he was just as helpful as a chocolate tea pot which has been used before. again refused to put me through to the principal so i foned back again and the receiption ist asked why i wanted to speak to the prinicpal so i said its because of his incompetent staff. eventually got hold of the principal who established that the handbrake cable needed to be replaced as it was damaged and that the reason they handnt done it yet is that they dont have one in stock. mean time some one from the dealership fones my wife and says car is ready we have lubed the handbrake cable up but we have no one to bring it out to you. the prinicipal is not happy, i am not happy, the wife is even unhappier( glad i am in west mids tonight ) the principal arranges a car admits they got it completely wrong both last week and this week and will sort out the poor communications ( again) well the freeloader turns up at the door with the guy who picked up the disco this morning, the chap hands the wife the keys and legs it before showing her the car, how to start it etc and leaves it outside the gate. Wife now has to spend 10 mins trying to work out how to start a keyless ignition car ( never driven one before) and get it in off the road they are getting the cable for the morning god help them if they dont have VOR stock!!!!! so long story short buy a toyota Quote
