hi all,i am in the process of converting from drum to disc,i have read the write up on here using 110 front stubs and hub, which is what i was going to do.had a bit of a play around today and found if you use the original drum brake stub axle and a front hub from circa 1989 range rover, every thing apears to line up ok.the axle is going on a discovery so i intend to use discovery rear disc and caliper, making my own caliper mounting bracket from 8mm steel.has any one else gone down this routebefore,or can any one see a flaw in my plan?i will try and post some pictures tomorow.

not a solution for you but just curious what advantage you will have with a salisbury rear axle over a disco 1??? didnt think there would be a great advantage in doing all this work!!

Disco rear axle is NOT rated for use under a 110 vehicle, it hasn't got the load carrying capacity that a Salisbury axle has, that's one of the reasons LR fitted Salisbury axles in the first place, later 110 use a strengthed RR P38/XD military based rear axle.

The Salisbury diff is 4-pin and the Disco is 2-pin. So apart from the load bearing strength of the axle, the diff is about ten times stronger.

The conversion of the Defender axle would be well worth it. If you use genuine parts like Jamie did, you get a very good axle.

I bought that axle from Jamie and he installed it into my truck. (I would like to say I helped but I was pretty much a spare part..)

The truck always brakes in a straight line and I've probably done over 20k miles since Jamies conversion.

i have got 110 stub axles, but want to try as described in my original post to see if it will work, that would make an inexpensive conversion for rrc/discovery/90 owners ;)

I'd be interested in if you can get it done with RRC/Disco parts as I've been looking at fitting one of those to my RRC, the only reason I've held off is because I looked into a ring & pinion change for my axles to sort out the gearing & it costs £200 more for the ring & pinion for the Salisbury than a standard Rover axle.
