Morning people

I have the chance to buy a disco 2 thats had a back end shunt.

was thinking of buying it and braking the rest for parts but keeping the engine and box.

I wounld be wanting to put the engine in to my 200tdi challange d90 along with the discos auto box

Am guessing people will have done this before so can anyone through abit light on how bad the wiring is and how to waterproof everything.

and is it really worth putting the td5 in inplace of the 200tdi?

thanks

Yes its worth it, much better engine.

Wiring wise just take the whole loom, there are several bits, dash, engine and rear chassis thaty all plug together. For waterproofing the only thing to do is locate the ECU above the water level and the obvious raised air intake.

For the gearbox it is possibible to keep the original wiring and controls but its best to bin them and install a compushift from Ashcrofts.

have done the same - put a td5 from a defender into my 200 tdi 90. much better engine, even in standard (non tuned) wiring is a bit of a challenge though - make sure you get the complete loom. will take you a while to understand what all the wires are for since lots of other functions (heating, airco etc) are part of the same looms - so its a challenge to work out which wires are needed and which are not.

the other thing that turend out to be a challenge was the fuel pump since i wanted to use the 200 tdi tank. the original td5 setup is wuite complicated so i experimented with inline pump from a bmw but that didn't work. I ended up copying the original set up with a lift and a high pressure pump as well as a swirl pot as well as the original td5 fuel filter. got the pumps from D44, that setup works well now.
