Hamish Grundy Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 hi all. As many of you are, i am currently trying to warm up the interior of my 90, its 200tdi with electric fan, so should warm up quite well, when sat stationary it does, but when on general road use the heater doesnt seem to do much. All cables are adjusted as they should be. I have wing top air scoops which 'ram' the air in to the heater, is this what is causing my heater to be so cold? Quote
western Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 which thernostat is fitted, it should be a 88 degree anything less will affect how much heat the cooling/heating system can push into the cab. Quote
reb78 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 which thernostat is fitted, it should be a 88 degree anything less will affect how much heat the cooling/heating system can push into the cab. How do you tell which thermostat you have? I fitted a wing top 'scoop' vent, but can't decide if it really makes any difference - that probably means it doesn't! Quote
western Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 take it out & look on the centre part of the stat should be stamped a number either 82 or 88 or even 74 all = degree C. Quote

paulnb57 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 The wingtop scoop is supposed to increase airflow though the heater and push more air into the cab thus improving cab temperature - I had one on my 90 and it made no difference.............. Paul Quote
western Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 don't have a scoop on my 110 just the standard heater intake grille, never had problems with no air flow through it. Quote

On my 1988 90" fitting an air scoop made a tremendous difference. Much more hot air and much less noise. Mine is the cheapest of cheap air scoops, the £8+vat model LR106R from Paddock Quote
Cat_J Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I've got one and it made a bit of a difference. Quote
dantd5 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Don't mean to be OT but does water get into the footwells through the air scoop? The air scoop on mine made a big difference with air intake!! Quote
Hamish Grundy Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 sounds like i should probably be look elsewhere for the problem, il take the thermostat out this weekend and have a look at that, and try and seal most of the holes in the cab area,. cheers Quote

Ex Member Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I purchased a scoop and carefully measured air flow. It reduced air flow. I have not seen one that does not restrict flow. Quote
crwoody Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I've had a wing top scoop on mine for a while, doesn't really seem to make much difference though, maybe a slight improvement if travelling at a decent speed but when stopped or going slowly it only hinders the flow as others have said. The other side issue is though, as Hamish Grundy has suggested, even if it does increase airflow, ie. at speed, this could reduce the heater matrix temperature if it's not getting hot enough to start with so you end up with no real benefit anyway. Always good for wetting your passengers feet if you go wading a bit deep and the bow wave comes over the bonnet/wings, best to shut it off first. Quote

The air scoop on mine made a big difference with air intake!! fitted to the heater intake air duct is a rubber one way valve, IIRC it can be accessed with the bonnet open, it works the same way as the similar valve on the engine air cleaner case, give it a squeeze & a clean out, that should stop any water reaching the dash ducting & getting onto the floor. Depends how quickly the water comes in, a bit of rain water is OK but it can't cope with a proper gush. Thinking about sticking a second snorkel on mine. Quote
