What are the differences between a salsbury front axle and a standard item apart from 50 kg extra, stronger diff and welded on swivels. Are the halfshafts stronger?

I've come across one cheaply and am thinking about switching it with standard 110 front axle on my expedition 110. Broke a halfshaft in Mauretania in the Sahara last year and I'm not looking forward doing 2500 km in 2WD offroad again with a 3000 kg vehicle :(

Probably a more cost effective/stronger option then ashcroft the front axle. (salsbury cost about 500 quid)

the swivel isnt welded on! if it is its a 101 front axle.

the main differences are, huge 4pin diff, bigger crown and pinion, larger 24 spline shafts. the cvs are the bigger early 110 versions which acording to alot of people are very very strong!

i havnt fitted mine yet but, when i do, if i break it ill let you know, having said that i ran simex on a 10 splin front axle, and didnt break that so....

The ones i used had thicker grooved brake discs and the swivels were boltetd as usual. The same CV`s and shafts were used.

Attention: there are wider axles available which have rare inner components like longer shafts!

Be aware that you need a custom made 30mm shorter front propshaft!
