Drakes Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Is the Borg Warner Vicous transfer box from a Classic RR a direct replacement for a LT230 from a 90 Any comments welcome Quote
FridgeFreezer Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Do you mean "will it fit?" or "is it the exact same thing?"?. As far as I can tell, it's yes to the first, no to the second. Quote
DaveSIIA Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Did the conversion on my 110 at the beginning of May 2008. Thread on LR4x4 has write up. It has been used it extensively for laning in the Peaks, Lakes and N Wales without problem. Driving on snow/ice is far more pleasurable than with the LT230. I don't miss the diff lock, and enjoy the longer legs for motorway cruising. Now done 15K miles and wondering why I didn't do it sooner. Quote
Drakes Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Yes I do mean will it fit, I was thinking of using one to raise the gearing on my TD5. The second post would appear to answer my question Any other comments Quote
TomG Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 LT230's are available in different (high) ratios. Most Defenders are 1.4 Discoverys are 1.2 (approx) So swapping to a 1.2 ratio Disco LT230 box will raise the gearing by 16% Quote
bishbosh Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 It will fit on the gearbox but will need different prop(s). Quote
