I hear that team 31 have a new secret weapon - an ultra-lightweight driver

Seriously though, plenty left to do, I'll be up with Marek as much as possible, plus now we've got the tow truck to repair too!!!

It's only a rear oil seal......... had a chat with Mark last night, there are other option's!!

You previously asked about the route. Once across the channel, the route is one and only and it's what viamichelin.co.uk, map24.co.uk or any other websites, gps sat navs etc recommend.

For those that didn't ventured beyond Germany before, mind that starting with Austria you will need to buy a vignette when you cross the border (from a boot after you cross the border or the nearest/next petrol station).

Vignette prices and other info so you can choose for how many days to buy:

- Austria: http://www.vignette.at/index.php?idtopic=504

- Hungary: http://www.motorway.hu/engine.aspx?page=fees2009

- Romania: http://www.untrr.ro/index.php?page=ro_vignette

Some more info:

- local weather website : http://www.meteoromania.ro/index.php?id=0〈=en , not more than 3 days forecast; further more, the weather in that particular area is harder to predict given the mountains

- wunderground usually comes close on the forecast but, as above, don't bet on it : http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/15230.html

- a webcam in Deva, the city where it all starts: http://82.79.1.58/cgi-bin/guestimage.html

cipx2,

thanks for the info and the most useful links and there was me thinking that a vignette was some thing you put on a salad (not that i know what one of those is either) :D

thought you would be able to buy them at borders but the next petrol station sounds good enough. We are going to use the michelin route and stick to the main motorways and hopefully have an uneventful journey to Deva....

then the fun can begin B)

I hope that the Lady from the hotel in Deva, still is so ""FRIENDLY"" to all of you, most of all, to Adrian Turner...

Adrian, try to loose the keys from the room, and ask for a spare one.... You will see how nice she is...:lol:

P.s. Be carefull in driving in Romenia, and don´t drive in the night. Last year, our truck when comming home, was stopped and they tried to take the cars..

If the police stopped the truck then the guys in the back must have been either policemen in civilian clothes or from another authority. You think the police was hand in hand with some robbers or there were fake policemen?

Don't forget Romania is the first line of defense in the EU and that road, namely E68, is one of the major East/West routes across Europe. The police has to look for drugs, illegal immigrants and the rest of the usual illegal stuff.

Very often there are police checks and they team with people from the local Department of Transportation (Road Authority or the equivalent of MOT inspectors or both) and there are even Hungarian policemen coming to team with the local police and make checks. But this happens daytime as well. There might be a greater chance at night, specially on weekends, but there's no rule.

From what you're saying (which is not enough to understand all the facts) it sounds like it could have been one of those checks. The only thing a bit odd is that usually the lorry driver is asked to open the doors/whatever to show what he has in the back (unless it's sealed and seals appear to be genuine/intact).

Anyway, nobody's going to stop you and nick your competition 4x4 from the back/trailer. Make sure you (or the driver) have some kind of papers to prove YOU didn't nick what you're carrying in the back otherwise police might detain you and/or the vehicle in question until you provide some proof of ownership. This is like anywhere in the world no matter what kind of goods you're carrying.

The advice of not driving at night if you don't really have to is good though, specially because there's no motorway between the border and Deva. The road is rather busy or very busy and preferable to be driven daytime.

Hi all..

Does anyone know for sure how far the "trailer park" is from the competition area ?

My dilemma is do i use a 300Tdi 110 as my tow car which has same engine, gearbox, suspension etc as my comp car in fact a complete car of spares!

Or do i use a chipped TD5 Discovery which has quite a bit more power & comfort for the long journey but has no parts in common with the comp car!

If the car park is fairly close by & the 110 is accessible if i need to rape it for spares...then i will use that, but if it is miles away & locked up all week.....well you get the idea!!

Any clues? :huh::huh:

I guess the only people who how for sure are the organizers.

Less likely the comp area to be to close to Deva (where the trailer park will be - http://transilvania-trophy.blogspot.com/20...-trailers.html).

From the TAT website/blogspot:

- "The start of TAT takes place in the town of Deva and the competition stretches all over Hunedoara county." - http://www.transilvania-trophy.com/info_place.php

- one of the areas they were scouting last year, see http://transilvania-trophy.blogspot.com/20...y-and-maps.html , is not so close to Deva; the map center is at 46.048 N, 22.58 E (gps coord in decimal format) which is 20 miles NW in a straight line from Deva (40 miles drive from the hotel in Deva).

- the distance between the North and South camps is about 40 miles in a straight line; neither of them would be too close to Deva otherwise you could stay at the hotel overnight (at least half the nights)

That's all I know. You can post the question on the TAT blog or you can try e-mail the organizers, maybe they can tell you more.

Speaking of the hotel, here is the picture of it, to know what you're looking for: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/11974406 - the GPS coord of the street corner you see in the pic: 45.877661 N, 22.904506 E

If someone needs a city map or something, or if you need a GPS track from the border to the hotel or any other place, just ask.

Paul,

last year, the trailer park was in the city, and our north and south parks, were very far. You must have someone that drives the 300 tdi in the parks of the competition. I think, that there is no way for you to acess all days to the trailer park in the city.

We add an extra car, that our friends used to drive everydays to the city and bring us the fuel, there where 40 km and we only saw them if we arrived early in the camps, witch was only in 2 days. The others, they leave the fuel and in the morning, we had already left when they arrive. This was becouse they did not sleepe in the camps.

During the competition, we carried all the spares we had. In the fuel car, there where only a few things left. You make 100 km during one day, so, if you neede a spare part, you would better have it with you.

I hope i helped. It is a great competition, freandly peopel, and amazing site seing. Enjoy.

Well almost ready.

there is a small weather update on the TAT blog site...

The weather is very stormy these days...

Even the simplest tracks can became dangerous under those circumstances so prepare for the worst.

For the Hobby class I recommend to exercise the "downhill-with-a-long-strap-on-the-tree-technique" in case you don't have a back winch.

And don't forget to bring those snatch blocks you never use.

sounds like its going to fun :D

Update from the South of England teams is car 31b (Jo Rose) has pulled out last minute and car 21a (Gasket) is stuck in Germany with a dead tow car. The remaining cars of teams 31 (Marek in the 110) and 21 (Moose with his 100") have made it there and are planning to team up.

Good luck all!
