western
chock the wheels both sides & release the handbrake, slide under the vehicle & on the transmission brake backplate, on the vehicles left, find the adjuter wind it in as far as possble but don't force it, once tight, back it off 4 clicks, you will feel t6hem as the adjuster head inside has small flats on it, after that check the handbrake lever will come up to the fully on position after 3 or 4 clicks of the lever ratchet, it should move fairly easily & get tighter as it gets to the 3rd/4th click, if not quite there, just readjust until your happy. discojmz
just as an extension to this if i may, I tightened up the handbrake on my 94 disco 200tdi and although now the handbrake works fine, the handbrake lever doesnt always want to sit right down when off as there seems to be 'too much' cable. Has it stretched? Is there some method of taking this slack up or is it new cable time? thanks

Goober
Thanks guys, that last one was a real help. So do you just undo the screw on the one brake and not both wheels? Thanks
western
no need to touch the wheel brakes adjusters, just the adjuster on the transmisson brake.
Goober
no need to touch the wheel brakes adjusters, just the adjuster on the transmisson brake. Is that the one numbered 7 in the picture? and not to bother with the number 5 part?
Anderzander
Step 5 in that list refers to number 5 on the picture - and the same for step 7 and picture 7. I've just got back from the lakes and mine needs doing - bloody rubbish when its been through water.

I meant do not touch the adjusters at each of the rear wheel brakes. adjust 5 & 7 at the transmission brake & handbrake lever as per the info
