Tray back or tub

Alot of the aus truck run with Tray back as that is how they leave the dealers.

Some of the UK trucks are running it now but as I have the opitunity I am intrested as to is there a benifit

I can count on one hand the times I have hit the rear tub on things and you don't see the top drives run with the tray back.

I have been looking at the Orange RR and Rouge Vouge and can see the benifits to the princible but already having the small ares of a 90 what are peoples thought

Paul W runs full body

Jim D90SV runs Full body

Simon D44

to name a few that have not seen the need on a 90 tub

(the two I have use as a example are both RR were it is much more necissary)

What are your thoughts

Well jules there are a few Aussie mags on there way to you right now.should be with you early part of this week. If they are not waiting for you at home now.

That will give you an idea of the try back. There are some 90 ( hydrid trucks) which have full bodys on them. Which have won assie events

You picked two excellent examples of tray back but like you say both are RR derivatives. Closest I've seen to tray back on a Defender are specialist vehicles fitted with 5th wheels or spray equipment and they certainly don't have the elegance of the rogue vogue.

But are they more practical on a 90 or is the tub just the same like I have mine set out already.

i think a try back on a rangie or disco is great but i have never had a problem with the back of a 90. it will give a bit more room on the back for storage

We were looking at the photo's on the forum with Pete who has no idea of a challenge as he is racing based and he though that the tub had better laod bays with the two areces being used for all the kit and the big heavy tyre stored between them low down keeping the COG low.

I still am in two minds I never struggle for storage I would on a 7 days event but the liklyhod of one going on in the UK is just not going to happen

Jules, IMHO tray backs look really good if done properly. Its the way I'm going to go as it'll be light, tough and easy to get at equipment. The other reason I'm doing it is its a lot easier to build a trayback than a hybrid tub (I'll need that with what I'm doing). I'll text you JJ's mobile number. Give him a call, he'll give you the bitch's opinion on both a tray back and a bobtailed 90.

P.S. If you can get up to Frogs I think they've still got Bob Seamen's 90 in there. Its a beautiful example of a trayback.

Yeh a lot of us still run full bodys........But

I think you will start to see a swing towards tray backs and i think you will see British cars becoming lighter and longer :huh:

I have just ordered two new chassis for new cars we are building, and yeh, you guessed it they will be both tray backs.

I aslo agree with Jon that some of the tray backs out there are Bl**dy ugly, and have had little real thought put into there design and manufacture.

But the concept is sound :)

Hell, that many aussies can't be wrong can they?????????

But whether the tray back will be lighter than a standard rear tub? well that remains to be seen.

I'll be intrested in which way you decide to go :)

But have you noticed how cheap rear tubs are at present.....Quite amazing.

This is probably my fav in Defender form courtesy of P4x4:

A lot more room but still retains the rolled edges and capping so its much more in keeping with the rest of the truck. Would need some spats sorting to cover the wheels for road use but I noticed a RR trayback at the MWMC had a neat idea for this with removable fender/light clusters.

Thats a 110 I'm not too keen to go longer I know racers have for years with bowlers being 106-7 and the desart worrior being 111 but I'm not racing the truck I am keen to find out why the increase in lenth is felt nesessary as the 100 inch is suppose to be the optimum but mainly for racing as any less is simply unstable at speed and can cart wheele which I have experiance twice at speed in a 88" racer.

why go from 90 to 95 or up to 100(with portals I could see this being needed but as I trashed the truck my portal budget is no longer avalible.)

This is very simerlar to the ideas I've been having recently
