Got snow yet?

Had a good foot worth of snow here in cleared areas (like house footpaths), of course they rarely if ever mention regions like where I'm at! We were only mentioned in one news report as being the worst hit area with snow so far, and that was it.

This is mine at 6.30 this morning. 10" of snow. It hasn't stopped falling all day.

I had to dig my car out, clear the drive and the road, dig out a neighbour's car to get it back in the drive when she gave up  , cut fallen branches off a tree that was blocking the road and then drive 35 miles to work. I got there ok but found only 3 students for my class.

Then the college closed at lunchtime so I came home again and found this to greet me.

The locals must have been busy.

Had 3" in the Cotswolds since late morning, not much gritting yet and no one stranded locally so far.

Lucky I have just finished fitting the 'kitchen' onto the back door of the 90, so maybe I can do a good deed or two.

UInfortunately the laptop I use for working from home is rapidly dying.

Work tomorrow or sledging ? biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

About bl**dy time we got some down here - now do I take the freebie or the 109 to work tomorrow? :P

Yes it is time you got some and you're welcome to it! I've just perfected "the V8 pirouette". Twice. In a 110.

4 wheel drive only works if friction is available, otherwise you're just two tons of inertia.

Take care and slow down. And don't go looking for trouble, if you get it anything like us it'll find you without looking.

It's about time we got some as this is one of the reasons I bought a 4x4. I remember having fun in an old Mk2 Escort Van just after I passed my test many years ago and I have waited for some decent snow ever since.

Hopefully this will be my time!

Although probably not as something else will go wrong in it...

The Isuzu is rear wheel drive though which will be bloody hilarious.

Oh yes, if you are the owner of a very nice Series 1 canvas top barrelling up the M66 this morning could I remind you that although you can probably go better then me in the snow, my car, and most others, has ABS and will stop better then you can so please stop tailgating.

Now that it is snowing which car would you choose to get to work in? I don't have snow chains - are they worth it. I have General Grabber Mud and Snow tyres, not very aggressive. Will I just slide around in the 110 and end up in a ditch. The fiesta feels easier to manage in a slide but whats the point of the Landy if it never goes out in the snow! Have I got it all wrong and I should be better off exploring the snow in a Land Rover?

Absolute madness here this afternoon, huge dump which quickly became sheet ice.

People struggling on even gentle slopes. RWD Transits seem worse than anything else.

Todays count...

9 of which 3 were Trannies and even an artic with trailer ( empty ). Used the kinetic

to get him a few feet forward to a cleared bit.

Gotta do your bit :D

You certainly SHOULD be exploring the snow in your vehicle! Snow driving is loads of fun.

However, please bear in mind that no matter what vehicle your in, once you lose control & start sliding, it could all end up going horribly wrong.

Some people seem to think that a Land Rover is a magical vehicle that can cross snow & ice without any issues.

As you would in any car, be aware of your following & stopping distances. Go easy on the throttle too.

The fiesta is fun to slide about in but can't even get up a hill.

Will the 110 slide just the same or can it get passed a hill safely.

The fiesta is a lot easier to pull out of a ditch and a lot cheaper to replace but the Landy calls and calls and calls.

It's all very depressing!

Horsham has it's own little micro-climate - there is no snow here and although Surrey (10 miles away) may get 40 cm, I'll bet that if we see any, it will be in the 1 to 5 cm range!

If it happens, I'll be out in a certain RWD electric freelander which based on the last snowfall can be both quite boring (in low power mode) and quite exciting (in High power mode) :o

TIP!! go out in the landy in the snow and find an empty 'large car park' and do dough nuts and fig of 8's with diff lock in and out, and try brake skids an curves, just to get a bit of practise, then take out the fiesta and had a barrell of fun in the same place!
