bobjacko
Hi, Does anyone know if the series 1 and 2 primary pinions can be interchanged ? All drawings / photos look the same, yet they are obviously different. Part no.s are 518473 and 542231. Thanks Bob
secondjeremy
No is the answer. In my parts book 518473 is described as 'Up to gearbox suffix 'B' inclusive. 542231 - From gearbox suffix 'C' onwards.' The primary pinions are a matched pair with the constant gear (ie mainshaft and layshaft gears) - and the Suffix 'C' gearboxes had a stronger layshaft with the deletion of the circlip - which presumably is why I'm replacing one on a suffix 'F' box which has snapped like a carrot where the circlip should have been. Phil Hancock
IIRC they are interchangable as pairs but the ratios are different.
bobjacko
Thanks for the replies. I think mine is the earlier one, so I will go ahead and order that one - not sure if my gearbox is a bit of mixture ?? Bob
