freeagent
Never known that happen.I suppose it all depends on your PartCo discount rate. Brown Brothers are also good although Camberley Auto Factors are getting as pricey as Halfords now. Last Disco air filter I bought from Partco was about a fiver, Halfords trade price this week £3.59. nige90
Got mine yesterday with a fistful of motor factor receipts and copies of a couple of invoices I gave out recently. As it cost nowt then even one saving on a spanner makes it worthwhile. Have to see over the next few weeks how it compares to the trade discount at my usual places. oggie27_3
we had the halfords trade guy visit us at work a couple of years ago and give one to every one who wanted it. suppose its a bonus being in the army some times, that day he gave out about 300 of them. but i also get military discount at lots of places, like camberley auto factors, you just got to ask it also helps being a mechanic aswell! the halfords card is worth it just for buying bulbs, oils and wiper blades. and their own tools are good quality with lifetime guarentee and loads of discount with the card! Les Henson
'High volume of invoices from local motor factors' I think I can manage that I get my tools from Halfords, but I get better discount from other motor factors. Their trade discount isn't as good as most others - it's just easier to get from them. Les.
M&S
Tools are, as a rule, 20%. Consumables vary not only from brand to brand, but size/variation too. Discount on Bosch wiper blades for example varies between lengths. Shopping around is definitely still keyas you said. The trade card isn't a magic solution! Bought some Millers diesel additive today, was £11.99, trade price £9.59. Not a huge saving but a saving all the same.
Les Henson
I buy almost everything non-L/R from Camberley Auto Factors. Trade discount is 45% pretty-much across the board. They sell Laser tools, which are definitely not professional tools, so I get those from Halfords. Their professional range is top quality and carries a lifetime guarantee. If you can 'swing' a trade account from Halfords, then it's a benefit, but for those of us in the trade - the discount is poor. Les.

HoggyN
When I got mine the woman warned me to be wary of certain items on 'special offer' because sometimes the trade price is more than the retail 'offer' price. Best to check the price before you pay. It may be cheaper to pay the full price
custom-conversions
When I got mine the woman warned me to be wary of certain items on 'special offer' because sometimes the trade price is more than the retail 'offer' price. Best to check the price before you pay. It may be cheaper to pay the full price You have also got to watch what they are charging, sometimes its really cheap & a good trade price, sometimes its just a few quid of the regular (mugs price). Just don't presume you are always getting a great deal. Paddocks (or other Lr specialist) can get lots of Land Rover parts much cheaper than Halfords. Halfords just rely on local motor factors to supply them & make very little profit on some items at trade prices, but won't be able to match the price of dedicated Lr parts supplier. Its still good to have a trade card, their tool range is good & they honour their lifetime guarentee.
