OilIT
I am experiencing a fairly significant leak of fluid from my gearbox when the fluid has warmed up - its coming frm the drain plug. This is despite fitiing a new fibrous washer, and cheking the torque of the plug. I am using difflocks liquid gold, but I am sure it is no more viscous than ATF etc. Has anybody else encountered this ? Is there a solution (i am nervous about overtightening the plug !) Appreciate any comments !
jjojjas
I know it sounds obvious but try nipping it up, just take it easy thats all........... you could try backing the plug out slightle, drying it with kitchen roll then quickly apply some silicone gasket and tighten it back in? I can't see the viscousity making a huge difference in terms of leaks from the drain plug (however I may be wrong!) if you must remove the plug, try some ptfe tape on it. minivin
the copper asbestos washer that I had in a gasket kit didn't locate correctly when I rebuilt my LT77 this week as it was a good 2mm too big in diameter. It required me holding the washer in place as I tightened it. May be worth having a look all round the plug to make sure the washer has located correctly, also fibrous washers in such locations, the torque required to tighten the nut down tends to cause the washer to split, thereby causing a flow of lubricant, had this with fibro washers on some oil unions on my classic bike the ba$tard things
