nobber
meranti comes from an endangered species of tree from asia and africa , there are four types apparently probably from four different types of tree. logging and slash and burn agriculture have made meranti quite rare although there are no conservation laws in place to protect it. any mahogany type hard wood from these areas such as the Philippines really needs a conservation order banged on them imo. il stick to my plastic dash. Andrew Chua
There was that defender in LRO recently that had a ton of teak trim on the outside - Someone in the middle east had commisioned it i think. Perhaps that inspired this item you've found.......... That defender is from singapore. it's a 110 CSW. it should have cost the owner over $185k SGD for the vehicle alone and it's a commercial plate. looking at the reg it's a G plated defender. It will only have a 20yr life in singapore before it will have to be scrapped. I could have bought a lexus 350 for that money with change to spare. The owner previously had a defender 90 also nicely done up with marine ply. the tomb raider rear bumper was removed from the 90 and plonked onto the 110. was in matt black. Off road it? never, he says. it's just for the looks. by the way, he is an interior designer. my collegue's husband's work partner.

Andrew Chua
welcome to the strange world of singapore. the goverment has decided that commercial vehicles are high milage vehicle with bad mantienance records and hence pollute the environment. so on the average 20yrs later, you have a puttering black smoking engine which is totally unreliable and will destroy the earth, hence ruining singapore image of a clean and green city. not only that. after 10yrs, you pay 1.5 times the road tax and you need to undergo the MOT twice a year.
