T1G UP
Want a tow bar on my 90. got a rear winch try fitted. Been looking for insperation and found this pic on t'initernet. Can you buy the pins? will it be strong enough off the bottom of the winch tray or ill it require bracing back?
Mark
They look very similar to the pins holding my southdown tow hitch on the discovery: I am pretty sure they are a standard thing... Mark

Night Train
Would I be right in assuming that a detatchable tow hitch or tow bar would not be legal if it is home made no matter how well home made and up to the job it was?
PeterR
My understanding is that if it was constructed before 1998 and fit for purpose it is OK.
discojmz
My understanding is that if it was constructed before 1998 and fit for purpose it is OK. I believe the 1998 refers to the vehicle not to the construction of the towing appliance. Im gleaning that from the line that vehicles constructed from 1998 require type approved tow bars so either way in this instance it has to be type approved. T1G UP
So are the ones for sale type approved? If i made it, it would be fit for purpose!
steve_d
I believe the 1998 refers to the vehicle not to the construction of the towing appliance. Im gleaning that from the line that vehicles constructed from 1998 require type approved tow bars so either way in this instance it has to be type approved. I can build a vehicle from scratch (and have it SVA tested) and include a tow bar so there must be some sort of getout clause. I seem to remember something about if the car was designed with towbar mounting points then they must all be used by any bar fitted. The reasoning is that monocoque design cars are generally thin material and the loads have to be dissipated through the structure.
