Making a snorkel top

Painting was a necessity...

Not all of the snorkel is stainless, so parts would have ended up a nice rust colour while others remained shiny...

The wing plates, screen mount plate and snorkel top are steel.

I agree, it did look fairly good when bare metal, but the pipework was quite cheap and the seams showed when close up. A bit of filler, some attention with a sander and some paint has made it 100% better in areas...
