popotla
I have a dry powder fire extinguisher, “stored pressure type”, 2kg. Is there any preference as regards vertical or horizontal in-vehicle mounting, and if so, why, or doesn’t it matter?
ltwt1981
We generally like extinguishers horizontal and front to rear. Obviously not for competition as we need AFFF to comply. Don't forget to take it out and invert it regularly.
western
doesn't matter which way up, as dry powder will settle, just take it out & turn it up side down a few times each month, my small DP lives horizontal on the front of my seatbox behind my heels, easy to get to & doesn't cause me any problems, it's big brother 9kg DP lives upright in right rear corner safely strapped in. popotla
Thanks, that's interesting. "Front to rear" would mean the nozzle facing the front of the vehicle? This new one, the one I'm about to fit, will be the second one in the vehicle. The first is mounted (essentially) vertically, sloping backwards at an angle of about 70 degrees to the horizontal. Could this be potentially problematic?
western
Nope, just shake it occasionally to move the powder from it's settled state, there's nothing you can do to stop the powder settling while the vehicle is on the move.
rallycinq
Obviously not for competition as we need AFFF to comply. Or 'soapy water' to give its weekday name. Cheers David
Hybrid_From_Hell
Makes me smile. Mate has a comp racer, has 2x extingushers AFFF for passing scutineering, and a old Halon - now painted red "To put any fires out" Nige
