Silverbake
The back door lock (squeeze-up type) on my 98 V8 is constantly getting stuck in the "up" position. i.e. stuck up inside the housing. Its a great security feature but I'd like to get it working more freely. Currently I have to lever it down with an angled screwdriver before I can open the door. It looks like the whole assembly is rivetted in position, so I can't get at it easily to check / lubricate. Any ideas please?
dooroy
You could spray something like WD40 up at either end of the 'handle' where it pivots and free it out this way . You could also remove the Land Rover badge from the center of the housing to improve access . I found that spraying up at either end always worked for me - might be hard to free out the first time but a regular spray after that should keep it free . I tried with a manky old WD40 can last month, but had lost the Straw-thingy, so couldn't direct the spray precisely. I'll give it another try tomorrow. cottamlee
hi there, i have alson had this problem. it was a spring that had failed inside the mechanism of the lever. hope that helps
dooroy
As I said it can take a while to get it freed out the first time and you need to be able to direct the spray at both ends to free out the pivot points . Keep moving it through its full range of movement while spraying it after each movement . Has it got stiff over time - it occurred to me that the spring to move it back down could have failed . The few I have come across have always freed out though .

I got a can of WD40 with straw, popped-out the land Rover logo and there were the springs all covered in mud and grime. A couple of sprays whilst working the handle up and down and hey presto, its as good as new. Conclusions: 1/ I should have joined LR4x4.com earlier. 2/ I should have noticed that the logo simply pushes out. 3/ If I'm getting mud up inside the lock housing, I need to work harder with the jet wash! Thanks again to all respondants.
