It lives!

Well, I finally got on and did it, torqued the head down, fitted the belts added some other bits and... my Freelander runs! :) I have not driven it yet but the fact that it started without needing to be towed is a good omen - I hope. I will take a test run in daylight tomorrow and report back. Cross your fingers for me.

Well, it starts, runs and drives OK. :)

On the down side there is a HUGE water leak from somewhere down the front of the engine which I can not find - I will take the alternator off later so that I can see where it is coming from. What do you bet it is the water pump? Oddly it did not develop until the engine was hot.

There is also a huge oil leak. It appears to be coming from the turbo oil return pipe. Again, access and visibility is dismal and I have no idea how to get to it. Whoever designed this engine must have known that he would never have to work on one in the car. :(

Chris

Glad you got it running, if you need someone to throw ideas at you / diagnose it, take it round to Adrians.

(I know I keep going on about it, but he doesn't mind offering advice etc [and its free] and certainly has the experience to tell you what it is and what you will need to fix it, and will probably have the bits in stock to save a trip up to the main steelers)

I'll stop the plugs now
