GBMUD
Well, I finally got on and did it, torqued the head down, fitted the belts added some other bits and... my Freelander runs! I have not driven it yet but the fact that it started without needing to be towed is a good omen - I hope. I will take a test run in daylight tomorrow and report back. Cross your fingers for me. GBMUD
Well, it starts, runs and drives OK. On the down side there is a HUGE water leak from somewhere down the front of the engine which I can not find - I will take the alternator off later so that I can see where it is coming from. What do you bet it is the water pump? Oddly it did not develop until the engine was hot. There is also a huge oil leak. It appears to be coming from the turbo oil return pipe. Again, access and visibility is dismal and I have no idea how to get to it. Whoever designed this engine must have known that he would never have to work on one in the car. M005
Chris Glad you got it running, if you need someone to throw ideas at you / diagnose it, take it round to Adrians. (I know I keep going on about it, but he doesn't mind offering advice etc [and its free] and certainly has the experience to tell you what it is and what you will need to fix it, and will probably have the bits in stock to save a trip up to the main steelers) I'll stop the plugs now
GBMUD
There is a strong temptation to take it there and leave it there until it is manded. Chris
