kellyv8
i recently purchased an old warn winch 8074/belleveiw and have been through the whole drama of sourcing info and the more elusive, parts for them also being told that they are really good but only power in and cant be adapted so i have made an adaptor plate to convert these winches to take the newer motors(i personally have put on a bow) and will be selling them so if anyone is interested in this conversion give me a pm for more info dont know if ive put this in the right section im sure someone will let me know
will_warne
Hi Kelly, I'd be interested to see how different these are to the later 8074 on which they're based - these will take a standard motor. All you need is an 8274 splined motor gear, spacer and possibly a bearing adapter. TBH, the parts issue can be got around - most of the bearings can be had off the shelf, casings can be repaired and if the gears are in a bad way you've had it. The real issue is the brake assembly which is hopeless on the bellview and adequate at best on the 8074. This is made even worse as parts are impossible to find. Having spoken to Jim at Gigglepin about this we both thought it'd be nice to convert the winch to take one of his mainshafts and an 8274 brake. Basically the mainshaft will need a little modification, a main gear retainer/brake drive needs machining (the hardest part due to the reverse thread) and a new ratchet plate needs to be made. If anyone's interested in any of the above parts (particularly the main gear retainer/brake drive) then PM me as once I have one made I might as well have several made.... dirtydiesel
The bellview has a totally differant gearset to the 8074. The bellview doesn't have a motor gear, the motor itself is splined and drives directly on to the gearbox
kellyv8
people get confused between the two, its the early bellveiw with the one way motor, with the gear thats part of the motor, that ive done the conversion for
