jcwcooper
Quick question im planning to upgrade the alternator on my 200tdi. Obviously i need to upgrade the wiring and im planning to use around 90-100amp alternator, I have had a look on VWP website and cant find any 100amp cable, can you use 2 legnths of say 50amp running to and from the same place? Cheers Dave.
Ex Member
Get some 4 gauge cable and run it all the way to starter main lug. Remove the existing 2 wires. See a welding shop for cable and terminals.
jcwcooper
Is 4 guage the only option? Dave.
upnover4x4
Nothing wrong at all with running 2 lengths instead of 1 if cost is an issue.
jcwcooper
Just thinking crimping the ends maybe a problem with anything over 6mm2 Dave.
upnover4x4
Theres always the soldered type if you cant lay your hands on a crimper. Decent blow torch will suffice.
Ex Member
Go to a welding store, they will crimp the ends for you. IMO, it makes more sense to "do it right" with one properly sized wire and be done with it.
Garthy
What uprated alternator are you going for? I've just diagnosed my alternator and feel an uprated one would be suitable because I use a split charger, however searching on the tinernet I can only find the 45 & 65 amp type. Ex Member
It is possible to modify certain 100 Amp 300TDI (AMR4248) alternators to fit the 200TDI Defender.
jcwcooper
Im going for a Ford mondeo 90 amp one. there is a thread on here about it somewhere 300tdi Alternators are quite expensive and mondeo ones are plentiful Dave.
