Bulkhead Outrigger

Hi all,

I removed my bulkhead yesterday, and have just noticed that the front bulkhead outrigger is slopping down away from the chassis

When I placed a spirtlevel across the Fuel Tank outrigger and the Bulkhead outrigger, the gap is 1" to level the bubble in the level.

The Bulkhead outrigger on the lefthand side is level.

Can anyone please advise me if the two outriggers should be level, as I would like to correct this before I start to paint the chassis.

If it is incorrect would make sense why the bulkhead was learning to the driverside

Cheers

Gary

Jupp, all the mounts should be on a level plane.

Check the back portion of a Series 3 WSM where it will have the measurements for the frame mounts.

Time to get the tape measure out, mate. ;)

Oh dear, that isn't right.

It's hard to see but it looks like an original outrigger.

That's bad.

Where is the warp, it isn't in the chassis rail is it? I hope not!

I suggest you get the grinder out, and replace the rigger.

I don't know what's happened there but as has been said - the thing should be level - but the top may not be quite flush with the top chassis rail.

Can I see some evidence of a welded repair on the chassis at the root of the outrigger?

Clearly the outrigger needs to be replaced with a new one and the chassis needs to be inspected carefully for damage in that area.

The difficult bit is going to be aligning everything so that the doors shut and look straight. The usual method for bulkhead repairs is to use the chassis as a jig, bolt the bulkhead on and tack it together, fitting the doors as you go, then when you're happy take it apart and weld it up. Fitting the outrigger at the same time is just going to be a bit more difficult but the procedure is the same - fit it align it tack it etc.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies ;)

The outrigger does appear to have been replaced at some time, no evidence of the chassis being warped in that area or along the chassis.

I'm going to check again the chassis tomorrow to see if there is warping of the chassis, the only thing coming to mind is that the previous outrigger was rotten and the new one was installed but not squared to the chassis and pushed into the cut when it was removed

Will let you know the outcome.

Cheers

Checked the measurements for the outriggers and all are in the correct place, also no warping on the chassis which I can see from.

When I took a closer, it does appear that the outrigger has been welded on the squint

Looks like the grinder shall be out again to play soon.

Cheers

Gary
