Converting lhd bulkhead to rhd

Recommended Posts

As its says in the title, looking to convert a lhd bulkhead to rhd but unsure of whats involved. Bulkhead is to clean to pass up if the price is right. Are all the fixings on a lhd bulkhead fitted to accomodate rhd from factory ie fan housing & pedal assy etc. not seen the 2 bulkheads side by side to do a comparison.

Built up to suit the specification of the vehicle it will be fited to, so not a generic bulkhead that fits both, the pedal slots on the drivers footwell on a RHD version are non existent on the passenger side footwell, just a single sheet of steel.the large hole for the heater duct to pass thourgh is not on the drivers side of a RHD bulkhead, so there must be 2 pressings for each type.

i converted a 96 defender from RHD to LHD. with regards to the bulkhead, some fixings where there some not, so it needed some work but it wasn't too bad.

cheers

aren't all the holes already there, the hole the heater blows through (on a rhd) is the hole the steering column passes up through in a lhd and vice versa. Not sure about pedal box holes but im near certain on my dads the passenger footwell has the holes there with a plate over the top and assume this is standard.

Thanks for all your advice on this one. Have bought the bulkhead & can confirm as others have said, the reinforcing is in place for the pedal etc & the only real difference between the 2 bulkheads is that the aperture for the steering column & heater outlet are on opposing sides. You have to make provisions for the pedal assemblies IE holes. On the whole not a bad job by the looks.

The demand for LHD bulkheads is immense and when you come across one just offer to swap with a RHD one being converted the other way which is far more common, many of the expedition prep places might be interested since they do swaps frequently as well.
