CJ110
Hi everyone, After having my new truck for nearly a week, I have been getting around to fixings some of the niggly faults. One thing I don't know how to fix is the fact that when I go round a left hand bend, I am loosing fuel out the filler cap. Is this a common fault? Is it just a carp fitting cap? Is there a funnel device I can fit into the filler neck? More worried about bikers slipping on the fuel rather than loosing it - but I would rather not throw fuel away. Don't assume I haven't thought about not filling the tank as much - this is the obvious answer, but not the best solution Cheers for any help. BogMonster
What age of vehicle because there are at least three different types of fuel cap and they suffer different problems. If it is the latest type (screw thread - Td5 onwards age) then have you turned it till it clicks three times and locked - if not it will leak. Mine did anyway (I used to put it on but not lock it to save using the key next time) and it took me ages to figure out that there is a vent in the cap which is open when the cap is unlocked. Hi BogMonster, The van is 21 years old and the cap is a twist and lock type....just going to check to see if I locked it....!!!! Yep - it's locked
disco tony
Check the rubber seal around the cap. See if its perished or damaged. check also underneath to ensure the vent hose is secure, are you sure its coming out of the filler?
ThreeSheds
More worried about bikers slipping on the fuel rather than loosing it - but I would rather not throw fuel away. As a biker who 'went down the road' a couple of years ago due to diesel on a fast rush-hour roudabout - I thank you sincerely for your concern I don't think many people realise just how slippy it is when you only have a contact patch the size of a credit card... Mo Murphy
Time for a new filler cap. Don't buy a pattern one, that will leak from new. You'll have to bite the bullet and get a genuine parts cap. Mo

I'm a biker myself, hence my concern I will get a new OEM cap to sort it out if that's the general consensus....?
Madcowz
I took mine apart and flipped the seal over then bent the two metal tabs so that they exerted more pressure on the cap. Worth a try.
