Ignition Testing V8 Efi

Recommended Posts

Hi me again with another problem... !

Engine > 89 range rover 3.9 Efi

When cranking what voltages should i have at the ignition amplifier ??

What basic voltage checks can i do to make sure all is well ?

The engine was running when it was in the range rover, but wont start in the 90 :(

You should have 12v on both when it's not turning over. The ignition coil gets it's 12v supply from the amplifier wiring, on their is a joint inside the engine loom that supplies a feed to one side of the amplifier - the wire that is also connected to the +ve terminal of the coil.

If you look at the terminals on the amp they form a T shape.

Ignition switched live (White) goes to coil positive and the ignition amp (leg of the T)

Ignition amp (top of the T) (White/black) goes to coil negative.

If running the ecu then there should be a resistor from the coil negative and the other end connects to the ecu.
