RichardE
All, I'm trying to connect a new brake pipe onto the RL brake of a defender 90. The threads of the brake housing are a bit scruffy and old and I'm having trouble getting the screw to screw. I'm worried about cross threading it. Any advice or good technique I could learn from out there?
LandyManLuke
Often, turning any thread so that you're undoing it, whilst applying pressure, until it 'drops' in to the other half of the thread works well. you should be able to feel it line up. Can be trickier to feel on tapered threads though.
Happyoldgit
Threads on brake pipe fittings can sometimes be tricky to start especially if there is not much slack in the pipe to allow a bit of 'wiggle' at the connection.
Les Henson
Make sure that you aren't trying to put a 3/8" thread into a 10mm thread hole (or vise versa). See how easy the old fitting screws in - it may just be an alignment issue. Sometimes - having the wheel cylinder still loose, makes starting the thread easier. Les.
