bigdru
hi, my 95 disco started misfiring last week, checked the dizzy cap and the coil lead had snapped in the cap, replaced cap and coil lead with new ones but it still misses after a couple of miles at about 2500 rpm. could the broken lead have damaged the coil. any help would be very helpful as funds are tight just now with baby no 6 coming next week, thanks Dru
landmannnn
Welcome and congratulations. In an ideal world you should replace the leads, cap, coil, plugs and rotor arm with genuine parts. If funds are tight try it at dusk, you should be able to see where the sparks are leaking fairly easily.
bigdru
Thanks, tried last night, no visible sparks any where. Main dealer wants 48 pounds + vat for new coil, bit steep i think.

landmannnn
It is unlikely to be the coil, generally they either work or they don't. Have a read through this in the tech archive for guidance.
Brian S
How bad is the missfire? Just a long shot but my 3.9 EFI run rough until someone told me the leads 5 and 7 (Rear on passenger side) should not be touching. It made a noticable difference. bigdru
the missfire is pretty bad once the engine has warmed up, only under load, going to get a new set of leads tomorrow and give that a try.
FridgeFreezer
Misfire when hot is very often the ignition amp on the side of the dizzy, about £36 new from memory (or from a shop )
steve_d
Dru Amend your profile with a location. Someone close may be able to swap out some parts and prove the problem before you shell out on something you did not need. Steve
