sas pinkie
Right guys, Managed to get some of those super rare and expensive alloys for my Wolf WMIK. Now this is the first landy that I have ever owned with alloy wheels on (never thought it would happen....) but i owned escort RS turbos in my youth and remember that when putting alloys on them I had to make sure I had wheel bolts with collars so as not to wear through the alloy. Now the question is, does this also stand for Land rover defenders, do I need to get some wheel nuts off of a defender that had alloys on, or do I just bolt em on with my standard wheel nuts? The LR wheel nuts for my CSW alloys have collars. My suggestion is proper job LR wheelnuts, plenty of copperslip and a breaker bar on the 27mm socket. After all a few bobs for thew right nuts is a lot less than many quids for some new wheels Regards Richard
disco tony
steel wheels use completely different nuts to alloys. I'm sure you will find pics on e-bay just for reference.
western
surprised the wheel supplier hasn't mentioned different nuts, Yes you do need the correct items but I've no idea of their part number, could be different length to the standard alloy wheel nuts or at a slim chance they could be exactly the same. Not all Alloys need the collars on the Nuts/Bolts, some wheels have a hardened steel collar built in so they don't wear out the wheels. Colin. sas pinkie
These look as if they do. I might just phone the manufacturers and check.....

Overtightening wheel nuts is almost as bad as undertightening them. If you overtighten the nuts/bolts the threads will stretch and lose their clamping efficiency. Fortunately Land Rover wheel studs are very robust and will withstand quite a lot of abuse but it is possible to overdo things. IIRC, the wheel nut torque is around 85 - 95 lb/ft but I would recommend anyone check the manual for their vehicle. Mark.
