TheRecklessEngineer
Stupidly, I left home without taking measurements! Can anyone please tell me the diameter of a series gearbox input shaft, and the outside diameter of a v8 spigot bush? Can you guess what I'm going to do this afternoon? TheRecklessEngineer
Ok, so I've worked out that the bush in front of me is a V8 one (pn 549911) - OD 24mm. Now I just need the diameter of a series gearbox input shaft...I have a feeling it is 22mm, but can some confirm/correct this please? Jon White
James, Both will be imperial measurements not metric! Cant remeeber what they are however I'm afraid! Remember to use phosphor bronze for the bush as brass isnt good enough! I did this the other way around - I used a standard V8 spigot bush, but machined the series input shaft down to suit. IIRC the V8 bush is 3/4" ID. Cheers Jon

Sorry I can't remember the size, it was decades ago I made my own bush (Oilite), used the std diameters from the V8, but made it longer for better engagement with the input shaft. I ended up with a headed bush. Hope this helps,
Jon White
I just checuked the input shaft in a lathe and it cut no problems. IIRC series input shaft OD is 7/8" Jon
TheRecklessEngineer
Thanks Jon - I make that 22.3mm Yh, the V8 bush is 23.92mm, but I couldn't be bothered with all the decimals on the end!
TheRecklessEngineer
Well, i've made the ID of the bush 22.45mm, giving 0.075mm clearance each side...I hope. I'll try it at the weekend and see what happens. Assuming I can make the clutch work. And swap bellhousings onto a new gearbox.
