ob1
Quik question There is slight play in the rear propshaft. How do you test if it is coming from the transfer box or not? Thanks
scube
Get underneath, with the vehicle out of gear and the hand brake off.. Chock it first so you don’t run over yourself that would never do. Hold the prop close to the UJ joint and try to move it from side to side and up and down (in the direction to the UJ points) or just give it a dam good shake. Any movement you have a knackered UJ .. A little bit of movement can sometimes be taken out with regreasing.
C18RCH
Do you mean back lash ie can turn the propshaft freely or as above can move the propshaft perpendicular to its length?
ob1
Slight turn, rotating movement. Did not shake it, doubt if the UJ is the problem, will re check
C18RCH
Mine has a little bit of play in it too. If it is only slight I wouldn't worry about, there is a certain amout of backlash in the system anyway even from new.
