TimR
Afternoon all. A transporter full of Army defenders has just gone past in olive drab with an elephant silhouette stamped on their doors. What does that represent? Tim
western
1 [uK] armoured use a Rhino facing to the right as it's formation logo http://www.army.mod.uk/structure/1704.aspx
TimR
Don't think that was it... It was forward facing though.
western
i haven't found any elephant markings on the site above, maybe a unofficail marking, which way was the transporter heading & was it a civvy or military truck.
stageonesimmo
I seem to remember a marking that might be it - was it a white elephant made from 'blocks' on a black backgound? I've seen it somewhere recently, but cant for the life of me remember where...........
titan
may well be a sub unit marking like a company level or even troop/platoon markings
pux
Was it carrying a Log in it's trunk. If so it's 2 MT of the RAF or as we call them "Tactical door slammers" lol.
western
not usual for RAF vehicles to wear markings on the vehicle sides, 2MT normally only display that badge on the front grille of the HGV's.
TimR
The truck was a service transporter in a broken convoy with 3 other large trucks (including a great looking old scammel) which were carrying odds and ends south on the Elgin to Aviemore road - to join up with the A9 I would imagine. Of course the two main bases near Elgin are Lossiemouth and Kinloss RAF stations.. Fort George (The Black Watch) is a little further up the road but unlikely they would take this route south. The elephant was almost iconographic, sprayed on, matt black against the olive drab - no border. not usual for RAF vehicles to wear markings on the vehicle sides, 2MT normally only display that badge on the front grille of the HGV's. They have their elephant carrying a log sprayed in matt black with no border.

western
suppose it's a quick way to tell RAF green fleet vehicles & Army green fleet apart, without giving the game away to mr nasty enemy.
TimR
Thats that's the one! I didn't notice the log. Interesting to see it sprayed on (the rather new looking) Defender doors. I'm told the base defenders have a relativity pleasant life (unless the night shift gets hold of them).. Thanks all.
