300 Tdi Fuel tank

Recommended Posts

I am looking at improving the range on my 1986 90. At the moment it has the fuel tank under the drivers seat. So, I'm looking at fitting an extra tank underneath at the rear (same as the 300 Tdi versions). How much fuel does the rear tank hold ? Anyone see any problems in fitting an extra tank at the rear ?

Thnx

Ivan

110 tank won't fit a 90 rear behind the axle. You need a late 300Tdi 90 rear or td5 tank (11 gallons i think). Will fit but you will probably have to cut and shut ur exhaust to fit round the tank. Alternatively WVA holdings do a 8 gallon tank that fits under the battery box on the passenger side. In LRO about 6 months ago i think Nene Overland had a similar tank and there was an article on it.

Some of the later NAS spec V8 90s had a rear mounted petrol tank, not sure how much it holds, or how much it will cost you to get one. They are available from Land Rover, but the price will probably make your eyes water.

From memory, one of the American specialists does a replacement side tank for the 90 that holds nearly twice as much as the standard item.

55L under seat tank 90

TD5 (late tdi) rear 90 tank 60L, 110 is 75L

How about another under seat tank on passenger side - moving battery. granted the filler may be an issue although prob cheaper.

LRO did one with Frogs island supplying sill tanks or similar i think , they were bloody exp IIRC.
