Front propshaft lengths

Recommended Posts

Are 90/110 front propshafts the same length as RRC or Disco 1 front propshafts?

I’m trying to find out if the distance between at front axle flange and transfer box flange is the same on 90/110, Disco 1 and RRC. I’m gussing that if the front props are the same length, it would mean the transfer box (LT230) is in the same position on these vehicles – but can anyone confirm this?

i think it will depend on which 90/110

A 300TDi/TD5 LT230 sits further forward than a <300TDi model

I would guess that the later defender position is roughly analogous with the position of the TXB on a disco/RRC but dont quote me on that.

Hmm, I thought the 300TDI/TD5 LT230 was in the same place as earlier models but that it was the length of the R380 and its longer bell housing that sat further forward (hense moving engine further forward over older models)?

nope, the rear prop is longer and the front prop shorter on the 300TDi compared with a 200tdi or earlier trucks, which implys the TXB sits further forward as well as the input shaft being longer.

Ah right, i see.

So, i guess an early (LT77 & LT230 gearbox) defender front prop wouldn't be the same as a Disco 1 or RRC but the 300tdi onwards as you stated may well be.
