draper40
Hey, I have a warn XD9000i and find the rope really hard to pull out when the winch is in freespool. I thought it may just be me but I tried and new champion winch and you have to put no effort in whatsoever. What could be causing the freespool to be so tough and how can I make it really easy? Thanks Pete
landroversforever
Has the winch been serviced lately? if it has been dunked it could be corroded, and full-o-crud.
bishbosh
My money is on the internal brake. Either that or your winch tray is not flat and the winch end casings are being twisted out of plane when you tighten the bolts. Try loosening the holding down bolts. If the free spool frees up then you have found your problem. If not, it is time for a rebuild and brake service.
draper40
It was rebuilt with a new brake from warn about 3 months ago. Bish- I'll try loosening the bolts tomorrow. Thanks Pete
western
Reckon you should send it back as not usable.

draper40
I undid the bolts partialy today and it did not help and so it sounds like a brake problem. Assuming the new brake mechanism is not faulty what is the problem and how do I fix it? Thanks Pete
bobtail4x4
Dont forget the champion winches have a good freespool. the first time I tried mine I nearly fell over, I was expecting the same resistance as my old Ramsey.
gwyn lewis
It Sound like you have to much grease on the outside of the Ring Gear, and in the end housing no 18 and no 1 on a parts diagram if you can see one , this causes to much resistance and makes it hard to pull out, as this must spin frely when in free spool , this is comon on a lot of lowline winches after they have been serviced, as to much grease is put on the outside of the Ring Gear , use a light oil on the outside of the Ring Gear it should help Gwyn Lewis

western
Try Arbil4x4 as they are the current Warn importer. http://www.arbil4x4.co.uk/category.php?category=
