engine smoking

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

finaly got my 90 back on the road after fitting a defender 200tdi, took it for a test drive tonight and it is blowing a shed load of whitish smoke. the previous owner told me that he had a full intercooler fitted and had turned up the relevant bits for increased power. i have held some kitchen roll on the exhaust and it comes away absolutely spotless, so its not oily at all.

anyone got any advice? can i down tune the engine myself? if so can anyone help with what i need to do and where to set the different settings too?

white smoke could only be unburned fuel if the timing is out, and if it was water, surely he would have noticed that the "bounty", or now known as "plenty" was damp after holding it against the exhaust,

maybe you just need a bit of black smoke to compensate?
