Les Henson Posted May 31, 2009 Share Posted May 31, 2009 Inability to set the correct tappet gap, tappet rattle - especially when the engine is idling (the top of the engine sounds like an old sewing machine). Depending on what engine you have - you may be able to rotate the shaft 180-degress and refit it. Only half the shaft tends to wear - the bottom of it, as this is where the pressure is during operation. If the shaft wears too much - the bushes inside each rocker also wear. Les.
