dasterdly
hello, could wing mounted military whip type ariels be used to recieve a tv signal for a 12 volt tv/radio i have in the defender ? i dont really want to fit a caravan type ariel to the roof, or the wing ! but just a passing thought... or maybe there is something else i could fit, which would do the job, the tv has a radio built in as well.. cheers... oli
Hi, The arials are used to be between 2m and 2.5m long. This is the right lengt for a frequency of about 30 Mhz. TV Signals can be found from abt 48MHz (VHF), 180MHz (VHF III) to 470 MHz and above (UHF). The Military aerial does not fit to the most of this frequencies. It might work if you put an amplifier/converter between the whip aerial and you telly but I think this will not work good. bye Oli
dasterdly
hello, it got me thinking when i saw a black and white portable tv in a secondhand shop, and it had the small loop arial attatched, but i guess that they must have some sort of amplifier in the tv circuit board. maybe i could run coils of copper wire round and round the landy until emmerdale tunes in ! cheers... OrbitalPear
Pretty much anything will work, just not as effectively as a real aerial. Why would you want to for Emmerdale?

Smudge 4x4
It does work, the sound is spot on yet the picture quality is poor. They are also affected by the elements a lot as the sway around !!
