Cheers
disco tony
you have checked the transfer box is engaged in high or low? Sounds a bit like the old hole through the clutch fork problem. Do a forum search.
reb78
First thing i'd do is pull the input gear on the transfer box. Take off the PTO cover and whip the gear out and see what the gearbox mainshaft looks like and the teeth on the inside of the input gear - wither of these may have stripped. Will it drive if the difflock is engaged at all?
western
does the speedo operate when you lift the clutch & try to drive away, if NO then the clutch has ripped it's centre out of the friction plate, even with the transfer box in nuetral the speedo should operate as if you tried to rive away. tommac
Thanks for all the comments- have checked the linkage on transfer box- no joy the pin was broken but moving it manually has no effect. Will take the cover off and check input gear Not sure on speedo- will check and see! Thanks for all the comments!

The speedo won't show a thing unless the truck's moving. It picks up drive from the output of the transfer box! Pull the PTO cover & see what the output shaft from the main gearbox is like. Sounds like it's stripped the input gear splines to the transfer box gear, sadly a common fault.
tommac
Thanks for the repsonse- already pulled the cover off- the input gear was indeed shot! Have a new one arriving tomorrow so fingers crossed gets it moving again! How long is the mainshaft likely to last?

On my old gearbox, they had worn at almost the same rate - its a wonder it went at all. The splines were very sharp and cut my hand.... How wide are the splines on the end of the mainshaft? they should be about 1/4 to 5/16 of an inch when new from memory. Somone else may come along with the exact measurement
Aragorn
Ye, its usually a replacement gearbox rather than just a new gear once it fails.
AndyEvans
a replacement gearbox is not neserceally needed. if u can weld just make the old knackerd splines up with weld and grind so its a tight fit. much cheaper then new box. ive done this and its coverd a gd 30,000 miles and no play in it yet
