Harrod
Hi, Ive got my 110 stripped down to put a 300tdi in it. I had the great idea that whilst the fron was off i'd tidy up and repair the bulkhead and chassis if it needed it. Sounds like such a good idea! So anyway, like all these jobs its grown legs and theres more rot than i thought, especially in the footwells. However this is reasonably straightforward, the tricky piece is around the passenger air vent flap. it looks like water has been sitting between the seal and bulkhead, and has eaten away at the nearside edge. (The photo shows it best). Is there a repair panel that i can weld in to replace this? I know there are some for around this area but do they cover this far over? if not i guess the other option is to find a defender to cut the piece out of. any other ideas? i dont think i've got the skills required to fab it! Also, does anyone know of a good place to get sheet steel in the lincoln area? Thanks for any input!
western
depends on how far you want to go or end repair plate
Harrod
Thanks for the swift reply. The rest of the bulkhead is pretty sound so i think i'll go with the end plates. I wasnt expecting them to be that cheap! Doeas anyone have any experience with them? are they a good fit?

Here's a link to the repair panel on Paddock's site: http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/DEFENDER/C...panel_-_RH.html ou could repair it, anythings possible but it would require cutting good bits from a bulkhead. I think you'd be better off trying to get a replacement bulkhead tbh. Can't help you with steel stockholders in Lincoln I'm afraid. HTH. Mark. western
Made my own from IIRC 2mm steel sheet, recycled from some factory storage racking backs, a mate welded them for me, so should last a few years. so I don't know how well the preformed panels fit. Harrod
That was my worry. It'd be ok if it wasnt in the curved recess. Am i going to have any problems with old/new bulkhead patterns? Mines a '86 ex-MOD 110. I'm hoping that by doing it all now while i can get to it and make a good job of it i can avoid having to do it again in the future! western
bulkheads for all 90/110 vehicles are virtually the same around the screen base area, the latest Vehicles don't have the vent areas cutout just the blank pressing [sheet steel material filling the cutout]
Harrod
OK well thats good news! I think i'll just have to bite the bullet and go for a full repair section. Thanks for the help guys! no doubt you'll have more questions to answer as this "engine swap" continues!!!
