Bluemoon
how do you tell a Defender alloy wheel from a Discovery alloy wheel of the same pattern , cheers Brian
BogMonster
You don't - they are the same wheels and the same part numbers. The weight rating is just different between the different types - some types are OK to use on a 90 or a Discovery only, other types are OK on a 110 as well. The only Genuine alloys that are 100% OK on a 110 are the Boost and Deep Dish, some of the aftermarket copies of the others (Tornado/Freestyle) say they are OK on 110s as well. What's the specific issue?
Bluemoon
just to go on a 110 stationwagon, so not carrying too much weight Brian
bishbosh
Regardless of the weight you will be carrying, the wheels must be rated for the max GVW or Mr Plod will want a word or three..... So only 110 rated rims for you Sir!
BogMonster
Yep, Bish is right - the only genuine wheels that are 100% approved are Deep Dish and Boost, both of which were also fitted to late model 97/98 Tdi Discoverys at different times. There isn't much in it - the other wheels (e.g. Tornados) are rated to be at least OK for a Discovery Tdi with a max rear axle load of 1650kg while a 110SW has a max rear axle load of 1850kg and probably typically runs at about 1000kg-1200kg lightly loaded so in practice unless you run fully laden in the 110 it will be fine - but it doesn't meet the specs. I wouldn't recommend it at all
